Cancer care can be complex and confusing. Outer Banks Health employs two cancer nurse navigators who work with all healthcare providers to coordinate timely appointments for diagnostic tests, treatments and supportive care. Patients in our care always have the choice of where to go for specialized services that are not provided locally. Cancer patients sometimes need to receive part of their treatment elsewhere. If this happens, our staff helps with the transition of care and ongoing treatment.
Our Navigator Team also includes an Oncology Social Worker and Hands of Hope Volunteer Program. Both supportive services connect patients and families with resources in the community to address financial concerns and provide assistance with transportation/lodging as well as other practical needs associated with cancer and cancer treatment.
