The Outer Banks Hospital alongside Title Sponsor, Dowdy & Osborne, is bringing back the annual one-mile walk against cancer! We invite the community to Dowdy Park in Nags Head on Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 9:00am to Noon for the Power Over Cancer Walk and Wag to get active, commemorate loved ones, and support local cancer care. This year, dogs are also invited to participate as there will be several dog-focused activities.

Pre-registration is encouraged by following this link: http://www.theobh.com/walkwag

Walkers, with or without dogs, can participate in the one-mile walk for $25 each. Each one will receive a personalized honorary and/or memorial badge to recognize a loved one affected by cancer, a commemorative Power Over Cancer Walk and Wag item, one ticket for the prize raffle, pre-packaged snacks, and water. Up to two dogs per walker can be registered for an additional $15 each. Dogs will receive access to dog activities that include an obstacle course, pet/owner pictures, paw print souvenir, and a commemorative Power Over Cancer Walk and Wag collapsible dog bowl.

Leading up to the walk, the hospital is accepting photos for the ‘Cutest Pet Contest’ and ‘Best Pet Halloween Costume Contest.’ Please send photo submissions via email to [email protected] until Wednesday, October 27, 2021. Photos will be displayed and voted on at the event. Walkers and dogs are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes at the walk.

Free flu vaccines for 18+ participants will be available. This event will be held in adherence to CDC and local health department guidelines.

Proceeds from the Power Over Cancer Walk and Wag will benefit the OBX Cancer Cares Fund, which provides free programs and services for local cancer patients, including: cancer screenings, support groups, and the hospital’s wig and Look Good, Feel Better programs.
