Outer Banks Health announced that Jeffrey Ray, M.D., of Outer Banks Health Family Medicine – Kitty Hawk, has been named Physician of the Year, receiving the Outer Banks Health Horizon Award. The award recognizes physicians who exemplify excellence in patient care, leadership, and community impact while advancing the organization’s mission to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors of Dare County.
The Horizon Award is presented annually to a provider who demonstrates outstanding performance in patient and team member experience, quality initiatives, leadership and mentoring and community involvement. This year’s selection process included 42 nominations, several of which highlighted Ray’s exceptional contributions across the organization.
As supervisor of the medical group, Ray has gone above and beyond in his leadership role. He is consistently accessible to his teams, regularly making rounds at medical group offices, answering questions, and introducing innovative solutions that strengthen collaboration. He has been instrumental in improving patient transitions from medical group offices to the emergency department, championing the SecureChat method to support timely and effective communication. His frequent provider communications, including emails and a physician-led podcast, offer insights, tools and encouragement to teams across the system.
Colleagues consistently commend Ray for his professionalism, approachability, and mentorship.
