NAGS HEAD, N.C. — August 21, 2025 — Outer Banks Health (OBH) is excited to announce the completion of the renovation and expansion of its Family Medicine practice in Manteo. To celebrate this milestone, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on September 9, 2025.

Originally brick, 3,715 square feet, and built in the 1970s, the building now features OBH’s recognizable blue exterior, fifteen modern exam rooms, a dedicated telebehavioral health space, an area for medical students and new nurses, and a wellness office. The expansion added over 3,773 square feet, effectively doubling the practice’s size to 7,488 square feet, making it the largest primary care office on the Outer Banks.

“This expansion shows OBH’s commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of Manteo and of the larger Outer Banks community. We are proud to invest in resources that support the well-being of our neighbors, ensuring that high-quality care is accessible close to home, and to provide an excellent experience to our team members and patients,” said Ronnie Sloan, FACHE, president of OBH.

The entrance, which previously faced north, now faces east toward Highway 64 and features improved accessibility for individuals with physical disabilities, underscoring OBH’s dedication to providing quality care for all community members. More parking spots have been added, including designated handicap and patient parking next to the main entrance.

Joining the OBH Manteo Family Medicine team this August is Robert Wetzel, MD, coming from New Jersey. Additionally, OBH plans to welcome more medical students, offering hands-on experience in rural healthcare and the opportunity to learn from its physicians.

“I really enjoy teaching; medical students bring new perspectives, keeping everyone engaged and at the forefront of learning. We are grateful for them, some of whom are local to the Outer Banks and are enthusiastic about serving the community,” said Erin Baker, MD, with OBH Family Medicine – Manteo.

Over the past decade, OBH has expanded not only in square footage but also in its provider base, adding more advanced practice providers and physicians to all areas of care. OBH offers primary care at five locations, urgent care at two, and a broad range of specialty services, including cardiology, urology, orthopedics, women’s care, cancer care, and surgery, and remains committed to continuing to meet community needs.

“Our growth is driven by our passion for this extraordinary community and recruiting top-tier providers to care for it,” said Lynne Miles, executive director of Medical Group Operations at Outer Banks Health.

OBH invites the public to join in celebrating this new chapter for Manteo Family Medicine. A connection-to-care representative will be present to schedule welcome appointments for those who have yet to establish care with a primary care provider. To be connected to an available provider through the phone, call the Primary Care Access Line at (252) 449-4540.
