Karen Henderson, Licensed Practical Nurse at Outer Banks Family Medicine in Manteo, is The Outer Banks Hospital’s July, 2020 Employee of the Month. She began working at the practice in August, 2016 and is a graduate of Norfolk General Hospital School of Practical Nursing.
Henderson’s team members say she lives and breathes her patients. She epitomizes the word compassion, always offering an empathetic ear or caring touch just when a patient needs it most. She is accountable to each individual and will not rest until every call and message is addressed.
Henderson’s patients trust her and know that she always has their best interests at heart. She works with many elderly patients with chronic diseases and she is able to help them manage their conditions, even when they are resistant.
She is a role model for teamwork. Her work ethic is strong and she is always willing to fill in for another team member. Her teammates value not only her clinical knowledge, but also her judgement and leadership. Her collaborative nature provides excellent communication between other TOBH departments to make sure patients receive the right care on a timely basis and any specific needs are understood.
Henderson is a great advocate for patients with insurance companies, medical supply vendors, and home health agencies to ensure the best possible patient outcomes. Karen developed our Allergy Injection and PT INR protocols, is a SPICE representative, and leads our Quality efforts. Recently, she was voted the team member with “the best attitude and support” through the COVID-19 Pandemic by the clinical staff at Outer Banks Family Medicine – Manteo.
Upon receiving the news that she had been chosen as the July Employee of the Month, Henderson stated, “First of all, I would like to thank The Outer Banks Hospital for giving me the opportunity to be a part of an amazing team. Being recognized as Employee of the Month was truly a surprise and honor.” She continued, “The love and support that I feel from my team and the community continues to amaze me every day. I am so proud to be a part of the nursing team in Manteo. I will continue to strive to honor the OBH and my team, by providing the best nursing care and support possible. Thank you so much!”
