Jessica Winstead, Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department, is The Outer Banks Hospital’s November, 2019 Employee of the Month. She joined The Outer Banks Hospital in 2013 as a Patient Access Representative. As she continued her education, she became a CNA and finally a registered nurse.
Winstead is a strong, knowledgeable nurse and a kind, empathetic caregiver who can easily comfort distressed patients and their families. She shows compassion to all of her patients. A co-worker stated that Winstead is “one of the nurses I would want on my shift every day I work”. She is always willing to help her co-workers and will take on any patient, even when not in her assignment.
This year, Winstead completed the Certified Emergency Nurse course as well as the Professional Excellence Program. She also precepts new RN’s and was part of the team that stayed at the hospital for the duration of Hurricane Dorian.
Upon hearing that she had been chosen as the November Employee of the Month, Winstead stated, “I was completely surprised and feel so honored to have been nominated.” She continued, “I feel blessed to be able to work in the Emergency Department with some of my best friends and to serve the people on the little sandbar that has always been my home.”
