Autry joined Outer Banks Health in May 2018 and has since become an essential member of the Emergency Department team. Her colleagues describe her as the “glue” that holds the ER night shift together, noting her strong work ethic, calm demeanor in high-stress situations and steady willingness to step in wherever needed.
Her compassion shows in every interaction. Whether answering call bells or assisting callers on the phone, Autry provides clear and accurate communication that helps keep the department running smoothly. She also promotes patient safety by reminding others of proper hygiene practices and care standards.
Autry became a notary to better assist patients and has even volunteered to come in on her days off when her expertise was needed. Her positivity is contagious, and her team credits her with lifting them up through consistent encouragement and acknowledgment of their hard work.
Known for her reliability, Autry often picks up extra shifts and routinely exceeds expectations. She stocks and cleans patient rooms, refills IV trays and blanket warmers, and ensures supplies are ready at a moment’s notice — all while maintaining a supportive, respectful environment for patients and coworkers.
“Dru truly exemplifies the values of Outer Banks Health,” her team said in a group statement. “She is a joy to work with and an asset to our team. The ED night shift is so lucky to have her.”
