Keep Moving!

If you’re thinking about having your hip or knee replaced, you’ve probably been in pain for a while and maybe even wondering how long you can keep moving. Perhaps it’s difficult to get up and down stairs or you might even be avoiding some of the activities you once enjoyed. It would nice to be able to move with joy rather than with pain. Now is a great time to take those first few steps toward relieving your pain, correcting deformity, and/or resuming your normal activities. The Outer Banks Hospital has recently added a new program we call “Joint Camp” to improve your experience and outcome from hip or knee replacement surgery. “Joint Camp” is shorthand for Joint Replacement Education Program. Joint Camp is a two-hour program held at the hospital, where you will meet someone who has had joint replacement surgery, register for the medical equipment you will need when you get home, learn about how to prepare for your surgery, what to expect during your surgery and hospital stay, and how to continue your successful recovery after hospital discharge. You can register for Joint Camp at the same time you schedule your surgery through Outer Banks Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, or you can call the practice at 252-261-9940 to sign up for Joint Camp as a way to explore the idea of joint replacement surgery. Bear in mind, we are not talking about your father’s knee replacement. Hip and knee replacement surgery was Keep Moving! first introduced during the 1960s, and since then, the materials and techniques used for these surgeries have improved. Annually, more than 300,000 hip replacement surgeries and more than 600,000 knee replacement surgeries are performed in the United States. Here locally, nearly 500 joint replacement surgeries are performed at The Outer Banks Hospital every year. Our experienced orthopedic surgeons use many of the newest techniques and technologies used worldwide, including the anterior approach to hip replacement. Take the next step now. Call Outer Banks Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at 252-261-9940 to schedule a consultation with one of our orthopedic surgeons and to inquire about Joint Camp.
