Outer Banks Health offers respiratory therapy on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.  Respiratory therapy may be part of your hospital stay if you experience trouble breathing and/or maintaining adequate levels of oxygen. Your primary care physician or pulmonologist may also refer you for outpatient respiratory therapy to help you restore your lung function as a result of injury or respiratory disease. You may also be referred for breathing disorders such as Sleep Apnea.  The goal of respiratory therapy is to help you breathe easier following illness or injury.

Our respiratory therapists are licensed professionals who use diagnostic and therapeutic methods to assess your pulmonary function. Diagnostic testing available at Outer Banks Health include:

  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Arterial Blood Gas (ABG)
  • Spirometry
  • Plethysmography (Pulmonary Function Testing)
  • Apnea Risk Evaluation System (ARES) – Home Sleep Study
