We are small but mighty, receiving top recognition from the Joint Commission and accreditations from the College of American Pathologists, and the American College of Radiology. Now an integrated health system, Outer Banks Health is growing to enhance our community’s health and wellness. With a year-round population of 35,000 that swells to over 250,000 during the tourism season, work and life are many things – but boring isn’t one of them. We invite you to learn more about how we partner with and care for our community.

About Outer Banks Health

Known for the wide expanse of open beaches and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, this 100+ mile stretch of North Carolina’s barrier islands is home to Outer Banks Health.

Situated in Nags Head, we’re driven to provide the highest-quality, compassionate care in a manner that embodies the friendly hospitality that the Outer Banks is renowned for. Our patient survey ratings and team member engagement scores rank among the best in the nation. We may appear small but we’re mighty and are one of only a handful of critical access hospitals in the U.S. to have an accredited cancer program.

Voted one of the top 100 community hospitals in the nation by Becker’s Hospital Review, we are a partnership between ECU Health in Greenville, NC and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare in Chesapeake, VA. We offer a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services to meet the healthcare needs of our community, whose year-round population of 35,000 swells to over 250,000 in the summer months.

Our hospital campus offers four ORs, a medical/surgical unit, a labor & delivery suite with a dedicated cesarean section OR, a full rehabilitation therapy center, cancer treatment and radiation therapy center, and a 24-hour emergency department.

Our health system includes multiple primary care, specialty care, and urgent care practices.

We welcome you to make a difference with us and to become a part of our collaborative and innovative community.
